Getting Together: Quarantine Book Club

a.jpg

In this time of social distancing, we know how important it is to stay connected and stay active.

That's why we're inviting you to join our Toronto350.org Quarantine Book Club! Every other week, we will hold a virtual meeting where we can sit down and share a cup of tea or glass of wine together and chat about that week's reading. We'll be covering approximately 100 pages every two weeks, flexible to change depending on topics covered and group dynamic. All books are in e-book format and will be provided free of charge!

This book club will be an opportunity to dig into the ideas that inform the climate justice movement, and an opportunity to come together while practising social distancing.

Our first meet-up will be on April 9. A tentative reading schedule is below.

Book #1: A Planet to Win: Why We Need a Green New Deal by Kate Aronoff, Alyssa Battistoni et. al

APRIL 9 - Pages 17-117
APRIL 23 - Pages 118-196
MAY 7 - Pages 197-280
MAY 21 - Pages 281-375
JUNE 4 - Pages 376-453
JUNE 18 - Pages 453-504

Future books include (in planned reading order):

#2 - The Case for a Green New Deal by Anne Pettifor
#3 - Four Futures by Peter Frase
#4 - Eco Socialism by Michael Lowey
#5 - The Battle for Paradise by Naomi Klein

You can access the first three books here: http://tiny.cc/95hcmz

Next two links are to come!

Please note: there are two file types for each book. The e.pub file is a simple e-book, and the .mobi file is for anyone who has a Kindle! Please let us know if you have any issues accessing the e-books.

We will be using Zoom to host our meetings, so please stay tuned for the dial-in information. We will be posting this on our social media, as well as the event page, closer to each meeting.

We look forward to you joining us in exploring these books and making the best of a bad situation. Together, we can weather this storm and continue making plans for a better future!

And remember, the first rule about Book Club... is ALWAYS talk about Book Club! Invite your friends and family to take part, and start getting your snacks ready.

We'll see you starting at 7:30pm on April 9th!
