Several groups promoting a Just Recovery are inviting you and thousands of others from across the country to gather for a mass digital rally to build power for a Just Recovery and make sure our government delivers a recovery package that puts people over corporations as we recover from the COVID-19 crisis on June 23rd, at 12pm PT / 3pm ET.
The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the biggest global crises of the century and has exposed an economic system unable to meet the needs of people and the planet. Millions of people across the country are grappling with job losses, paying rent and bills, with many frontline workers forced to work without paid sick leave and hazard pay. Unemployment has hit a record of 13% — the highest level since WWII. And after years of austerity, our healthcare and social services are buckling under pressure.
We know we can’t go back to business as usual of climate inaction and rising inequality. How Canada recovers and rebuilds from the pandemic will shape the next chapter of human history. Right now, our governments are looking for ways to rebuild the economy and they’re listening more than ever — but right-wing interests are pulling out all the stops to lobby for billion dollar bailouts and mass austerity.
