Learning Session: Using regulations and community action to shift from disposables to reuse in Toronto

Join us next week for a learning session on how we can create a ReusableTO!

Thanks to public demand, Toronto City Council adopted a Single-Use Reduction Strategy last year. Now, the City is seeking input on regulations - local by-laws that would add mandatory fees, or ‘ask-first’ requirements, for wasteful single-use food ware items like cups, utensils and bags.

This is a key moment to show that Toronto is ready for these by-laws, and go even further by truly shifting our city away from harmful disposables to zero waste, climate-friendly reusables. This can be a turning point for our city, if we get it right!

Come learn about the strategy and what we can push for. We’ll cover:

- Toronto’s Single-Use Reduction Strategy and the proposed regulations. We’ll also explain how local regulations relate to the Federal single-use plastic ban.
- Why reuse is the solution we need to push for (and what false solutions are being used to push more disposables).
- Examples of local reuse solutions AND innovative (and doable!) regulations and programs from other cities.
- How to get involved in the call for reusables - including taking the City’s current survey and other upcoming opportunities.
